Function details: This person will, as a member of the Global Cargill Food Nutrition team,
provide strategic leadership and primary focus at Cargill for advances in carbohydrates for health. In collaboration with Regulatory and Scientific Affairs teams in North America and Europe, he/she provides guidance to Business Units (BU’s) on:
• Nutrition opportunities and threats to their ingredients and business.
• Communication to customers on nutrition issues.
• Appropriate research agenda to meet business goals and develop/support nutritional claims for
ingredients, systems and foods.
This person also leads Cargill in monitoring advances and events in carbohydrate and fiber nutrition
and acts as a Cargill representative to external nutrition organizations and science groups to
influence thought leaders.
 
Expectations for this role include:
• Lead efforts in Cargill to help BU’s define nutritional benefit opportunities in carbohydrates.
• Define strategic research agenda including physiological modeling, in vitro, in vivo testing, and
coordinate execution of work with Cargill Animal Nutrition and the Cargill Center for Nutrition
Science.
• Use Cargill clinical management process to guide BU’s to fiscally sound research investments.
• Oversee development and execution of research protocols for clinical trials and feasibility
studies which support the strategic technology plans for BU ingredients. This includes protocol
review, arrangements for study monitoring and subsequent reporting of data according to Good
Clinical Practice guidelines, in compliance with Cargill internal policies for studies.
• Provide scientific/technical support to the BU’s in customer events, training sessions, product or benefit claim related communications, as well as in scientific/technical conferences and trade
events.
• Work with regulatory colleagues to design research to build dossiers for product benefit or
safety substantiation.
• Track and communicate new developments in the Nutrition & Health field and literature.
• Stay for a minimum of 3 years in this job.
 
Education and qualifications:
• PhD in Human Nutrition and/or Biomedical sciences with an option in, preferably human,
Nutrition.
• Experience with carbohydrates metabolism and digestion (including fiber and slowly digested
carbohydrates) required.
• Fiber, gut health or immunity experience very desired.
• Proven ability to identify key trends and opportunities.
• Ability to design a strategic research agenda from modeling through in vitro and in vivo studies
to claims validation.
• Experience in defining, organizing and executing clinical experimentation/studies.
• Experience in publishing and communication of science.
• Good basic representation and discussion skills.
• Ability to credibly represent Cargill with external experts and regulators.
• Ability to communicate, influence and build support for scientific ideas with a non-scientific
audience.
• Basic understanding of Health & Nutrition market (companies, products, food supplements,
consumer health concerns).
• Minimum 8 years of commercial/industrial experience, preferably in consumer food products or in food ingredients.
• PC literate (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, …).
